Head Start

Head Start is a comprehensive, family-focused program that prepars children both academically and socially for a smooth transition into kindergarten supported by federal and state funds.

Head Start offers children ages 3-5 years
with the following services:

  • 4 ½ or 5 hour instructional day
  • Extended hours available for working families
  • Qualified teaching staff
  • Staff certified in Infant and Child First Aid
  • Individualized learning activities
  • Educational screenings
  • Health screenings and follow up
  • Parent workshops and support services
  • Breakfast and lunch provided
  • Registered nurse on duty
  • Enroll children with disabilities
  • A smooth transition form pre-kindergarten to kindergarten
  • Use a curriculum that will help your child grow academically and socially
  • Small class sizes
Unfortunately, because of the Federal Sequestration, 82 less children will be served in Schuylkill County this year. Through Child Development's Head Start program, 372 children will be able to participate in a center based option – the Home Base option is no longer available.
